Scooterists, Art Lovers Gather at Los Vesparados

Scooterists and art lovers from the Twin Cities and beyond gathered the evening of June 13 in Minneapolis to attend Los Vesparados, an event combining the cult following of scooters with a line up of local and international artists working in different styles and mediums to celebrate the spirit of the scooter.

The event featured more than 25 local and international artists showing a variety of art, from painting and print editions to metal and jewelry; a scooter exhibition in the parking lot; scooter memorabilia displayed by Michael & Eric Dregni, authors of many books on the subject; a DJ spinning mod tunes; a raffle to win a Genuine Buddy scooter; and projections of scooter movies and commercials.

Artists in attendance included: Adam Turman, Aleksandra Stancevic, Andre Knaebel, Andrea Horne, Angel Bomb, Brian Sago, Chank Diesel, Charles Youel, Dan Marshall, Emmy Lingscheit, Ethan Arnold, Greg Meyers, James Provost, KarinJacobson, Kristen Arden, Maisa Ferreira, Mark Pilon, Mike Elko, Nate Christopherson, Nate Johannes, Nate Ronniger, Nick Shale, Sara Jorde, Scott Shore, Sean Tubridy, Steve Tenebrini, Annie Wang and Keiko Yagishita. Prices for the artwork ranged from $10 for a spray paint on canvas piece to $2,450 for a steel and patina wall hanging.

All the artwork surrounded a four-scoot floor display featuring a 1957 Lambretta LD 125, 1966 Vespa 150 Super, 1970 Lambretta GP 225 TS1 and 1980 Vespa Primavera ET-3.

Event co-hosts, Sean Tubridy of Blue Over Blue and Todd Thyberg of Angel Bomb Design, are avid scooter enthusiasts and active fixtures in the Minneapolis art scene. Blue Over Blue is a Minneapolis graphic and web design agency; Angel Bomb Design is a full service design and letterpress shop.

Bob Hedstrom, dealer principal of Scooterville, also was in attendance. Bob displayed two of his scooters and, along with vehicle supplier Genuine Scooter Co., offered the Buddy being raffled.
